Multilateral Development Banks:

The Commercial Service maintains Commercial Liaison Offices in each of the main Multilateral Development Banks, including the African Development Bank and the World Bank. These institutions lend billions of dollars in developing countries on projects aimed at accelerating economic growth and social development by reducing poverty and inequality, improving health and education, and advancing infrastructure development. The Commercial Liaison Offices help American businesses learn how to get involved in bank-funded projects, and advocate on behalf of American bidders. Learn more by contacting the Commercial Liaison Offices to the African Development Bank (http://www.export.gov/afdb) and the World Bank (http://export.gov/worldbank).

Power Africa

Power Africa is actively engaged in the development of Malawi’s power sector to improve access to electricity for more than 15 million Malawians.  Power Africa’s partnership with the Government of Malawi (GOM) is solidified by the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which guides the implementation of Power Africa support.  Power Africa activities in Malawi, implemented through USAID’s Southern Africa Energy Program, sustain and build upon Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) $350.7 million Malawi Compact that ends in September 2018.  Power Africa works with GOM partners to increase access to electricity by advancing energy policy and regulatory reforms, operationalizing interconnections with the Southern Africa Power Pool, strengthening the performance of electric utilities, scaling off-grid electrification, and facilitating public and private sector investments in energy infrastructure.  Learn more about how Power Africa is partnering to address key challenges in Malawi’s electricity sector and supporting private sector investment in energy at: https://www.usaid.gov/powerafrica/malawi.
