Describes how widely e-Commerce is used, the primary sectors that sell through e-commerce, and how much product/service in each sector is sold through e-commerce versus brick-and-mortar retail. Includes what a company needs to know to take advantage of e-commerce in the local market and, reputable, prominent B2B websites.

E-commerce is not a viable means of engaging directly in IDB funded projects. Whether project procurement for performance of public works projects, corporate procurement for consulting/advisory services, or private sector activities in partnership with IDB Invest, opportunities generally call for the execution of a full-scale project requiring a high degree of collaboration among stakeholders and on-the-ground in-country capabilities and commitment.

IDB financed project work is a fraction of the $800 billion public procurement market in Latin America and the Caribbean. Reports indicate that public procurement in the Latin American region is increasingly adopting e-commerce as a means for sourcing materials and inputs. Examples are Mexico’s
CompraNet and Chile’s ChileCompra.
