Purpose of Data Collection
D2L receives and uses personal information in the course of D2L’s business activities as follows: (1) In the context of D2L’s hosted applications and platform services, clients are able to enter data and information, including personal data, to D2L’s and its suppliers’ servers. D2L acts as a data processor and does not monitor or police the data or determine how its clients’ data is used. D2L does not select or determine the types of data that are submitted to D2L’s servers, and any access to or use of such data by D2L is incidental to completing the contractual obligations of D2L to its clients. (2) In the context of D2L’s professional services operations, D2L processes data and information, including personal data, on behalf of its clients. D2L acts as a data processor on behalf of its clients. (3) In the context of D2L’s internal operations, D2L transfers personal data of its current and prospective customers and current and prospective business partners to D2L’s data centers for processing and storage. D2L collects, transfers, and uses personal data of its current and prospective customers and current and prospective partners for sales, billing, marketing, and business partner recruitment purposes. In this context, D2L acts as a data controller.
