Purpose of Data Collection

We collect an email address and password from consumers and representatives of employers who register to use our services. We then ask consumers for, but consumer users need not provide, non-sensitive information about their gender, age, highest level of eduction, job title, industry, employer. In some circumstances, users may provide us with other information, which may include their name, phone number, and/or postal address. On a voluntary basis, consumer users may also decide to provide us with more sensitive information such as their taxpayer ID number; driver's license or other government-issued identification number, or payment information, including a bank account, credit or debit card number (we discourage this sort of info and we don't store credit/debit card in any way, except that this info might be included by a user on a resume that they upload to us). Users connecting via Facebook, Google+ give us information about their friends and connections and other personal info available generally on that Social Networking Site. Also we collect the following types of information by automated means including technical information about users' computers, such as IP address or other device identifier, and usage information and statistics about users' interaction with Glassdoor including the URLs of our web pages visited, URLs of referring and exiting pages, page views, time spent on a page, number of clicks, platform type, and location data about how users use Glassdoor. We use "web beacons" (also known as Internet tags, pixel tags, tracking pixels, and clear GIFs) on our websites. These web beacons allow us and third parties to collect information such as the IP address of the device, the URL of the web page, the time the page was viewed, the type of browser used, and any additional information in cookies that may have been set by the third party. From Mobile Users we will collect physical location, mobile device type and mobile device identifiers such as UUID, IP Address, and other information that users choose to voluntarily provide to us. Even when Users are not using a mobile device, information about Users' general location may be discernible from their device's IP address or the URLs we receive. We also collect information using cookies to help us identify users when they visit Glassdoor. We process this information in order to provide the services available to consumers and to employers on Glassdoor.com and its country specific local domains. We provide necessary portions of this collected information to third parties to whom we have outsourced specific tasks to assist us to provide services on Glassdoor. All such third parties contract with Glassdoor to limit their use of shared information only to assisting Glassdoor to provide services to users. Such service providers may assist Glassdoor with customer service, content moderation, payment processing, website hosting and caching services and other typical tasks necessary for online commerce and publishing services.

We have a substantially similar international version of this privacy policy that is publicly available on our non-US domains and that is shown, in the local language where applicable, to users accessing Glassdoor on a local country domain or which we identify as coming to Glassdoor.com from a non-US location. The local language versions of the privacy policy are provided as a courtesy with the English language version controlling.
