Purpose of Data Collection
Personal Data Other Than Human Resources Data: Renaissance Learning and its subsidiaries offer a suite of online education products that are designed to pinpoint mastery of early literacy, early numeracy, reading, and math skills for pre-K to grade 12 students. The Renaissance portfolio includes solutions for assessment (Star Assessments and myIGDIs for Preschool); practice (Accelerated Reader, myON, Freckle, and Lalilo); data-driven insights (Schoolzilla); and teacher facilitated instructional delivery (Nearpod). Customers are able to add, edit, or delete information about their districts, schools, school years, personnel, students, courses, and classes across all of their Renaissance Learning products. Data ownership rests with the school or district that subscribes to Renaissance Learning's products. The school or district may access and manage student-level data, including adding, editing, or deleting information about schools, school years, personnel, students, courses and classes. The school or district dictates what optional data is collected. Renaissance Learning occasionally shares limited data with government agencies having responsibility for education services in connection with product trials and generic educational research subject to strict controls on confidentiality. The following list identifies mandatory personally identifiable information that may be collected via Renaissance place: student's first name, student's last name, student's username (U.S. only), student's password, student's local ID (U.S. only), student's enrollment information (U.S. only), student's grade level, student's date of birth (U.K. only), staff member's first name (U.K. only), and staff member's last name (U.K. only). The following list identifies optional personally identifiable information that may be collected via Renaissance products: student's middle name, student's preferred name, student's gender, student's ID, student's ethnicity, student's primary language, student's demographic characteristics, staff member's preferred salutation, staff member's middle name, staff member's state personnel ID, staff member's primary position, staff member's gender, voice recordings and historic student data from a student information system or other tracking format. Renaissance Learning retains activity records-which are stripped of any personally identifiable information-in perpetuity. We use this anonymous data to maintain and improve the performance or functionality of our educational products; for adaptive learning purposes; for customized student learning; to develop new content or improve existing products, services, or applications; to maintain and improve the performance or functionality of our educational products; and for general educational research purposes. Human Resources Data: Renaissance Learning U.K. Ltd. electronically shares information with Renaissance Learning, Inc., via a secure data storage, sharing, and organization. This information includes resumes, references, employee-signed compliance and disclosure forms, employee-signed confirmation and receipt of handbook, employee-signed employment contract, signed offer letter, P45/new starter checklist, employee questionnaire (includes bank details, next of kind and passport number), contractual change letters (detail employment-related changes include hours, pay, maternity/paternity), pension data, employee resignation letters, company resignation confirmation letters, exit questionnaires, status rate change forms (updating payroll and human resources database), employee performance ratings and appraisal information, employee payroll, and data protection forms.

The aim of this Global HR-Related Data Protection Policy (Policy) is to comply with relevant legislation regarding the keeping of employment records and sharing this information among Renaissance Learning, Inc. and its affiliates (Renaissance). Renaissance requires personal information relating to each individual that it employs, contracts with, or otherwise engages under Renaissance’s direct control (Worker) in order to manage its business in an efficient and effective manner. This data is subject to various data protection laws around the world, such as the Australian Privacy Act (Cth), the UK Data Protection Act 1998, and any subsequent legislation related to data protection in applicable jurisdictions (Applicable Law). Please note that the collection, input, use, retention, disposal, and disclosure of any private information in our software products is controlled solely by your child’s educational institution. If you have questions regarding your child’s educational record, please contact your child’s educational institution for support. Renaissance will act upon the instructions of your child’s educational institution with regards to parental inquiries about their child’s student data. Renaissance cannot delete, change, or divulge any student records from our software products unless authorized by your student’s educational institution.
