Purpose of Data Collection

Outbrain provides content recommendation services. In the provision of its services Outbrain processes two types of personal data (1) end user data, (2) employee and candidate data, (3) business partner data. In respect of end user data, Outbrain collects collects certain personal data from individuals who interact with Outbrain's widget across Outbrain's network of publishers. Outbrain assigns each end user a unique user identifier and also collects the end user's IP address (which it translates into geo location and deletes the last octet). Outbrain uses this information, with other device identifiers, to serve personalised recommendations to that end user when it interacts with Outbrain. For example, if UUID123 interacts with Outbrain's widget on and looks at travel content then when UUID123 interacts with Outbrain again on The Guardian we may serve them more travel content. Outbrain's widget is labelled with the Outbrain and Adchoices logo and the user has the ability to review Outbrain's privacy policy and opt out of personalised tracking if they want. In addition, Outbrain collects site visitor data, when a person visits or interacts with Outbrain websites, interactive features or blogs. For site visitors Outbrain may collect their IP address or their name or email address if they submit this for further information. In respect of employee data, Outbrain collects certain personal data in order to fulfil its legal and contractual obligations for the performance of the employment relationship. In addition, Outbrain may collect some candidate data in order to review candidate applications and make decisions around the candidate's employment at Outbrain. From business partners, Outbrain collect name, email, telephone numbers in order to service their account and provide our services or use third party services as Outbrain.
