The Gambia is not a major transit point or transshipment hub, even though re-export trade represents over 80 percent of total exports. This is due to the relatively small size of the overall trade volume, compared to countries with larger ports.  Several goods transit the country en route to Senegal, Guinea Bissau and other countries in the ECOWAS sub region.  Goods in transit are not assessed custom duties.
