The National Export Initiative and its successor NEI/NEXT is a customer service-driven strategy of information resources to ensure American businesses are fully able to capitalize on expanded opportunities to sell their goods and services abroad.  Metrics of the success of NEI/NEXT are the dollar value of U.S. exports, the number of U.S. companies exporting and those exporting to more than one international market, and U.S. exports to emerging countries and trade agreement markets.
